This is honda’s newest generator. It’s their EU2200i. Now it might look like the old model, but they have added completely new features. You can now run this thing over Bluetooth using your smartphone. You can even control the generator. See how much power it using and many more things.
But additionally, they’ve added a safety system with carbon monoxide detection. But I was honestly concerned that a safety system like this could make your generator stop as they claim.
So I put this thing through a series of tests and did a complete review to help you decide if this generator is worth the upgrade. I will tell you about that result later in this post, in the CO-MINDER section.
Honda is smart because the old EU2200i was a huge success, so they didn’t get rid of that model. They just updated the design and added some new electronics to control the generator.
When you order Honda EU2200i 2200-Watt Portable Inverter Generator, you will get only 2 things when you open the box.
You may get underwhelmed because all you’re going to get there manual and the generator itself. There’s no toolkit, no oil or extra cables, or anything else.

Honda EU2200i with CO-MINDER at a glance
To add your oil, you just need to remove this maintenance cover. EU2200i is the same design Honda used in the old model, and you can remove it with a Phillips head screwdriver or even a coin if you don’t have any tools.
Now you just need to add your oil, and that’s easy to do by removing the dipstick and filling it up until the oil comes to the bottom of the threads.
You can use the dipstick to check the level but remember that you don’t screw the dipstick in to check the level. You remove it and then just place it into the opening.
This cover makes maintenance really easy, and you can get to the oil and also you can air cleaner easily. The only other item is your spark plug. But they’ve used the same design where you can just remove the small cover on top and you can get easy access to change your spark plug in the future.
The design of the new EU2200i has stayed the same they use the same engine and exhaust. All of the controls are in the same positions as the original model. This is a good thing because this design worked very well and I’m a big fan of having the outlets on the thin side of the generator.
Honda’s off/on switch actually has a third position in the middle. And that’s the fuel off option, so if you put it to the fuel off position, the generator will run itself out of fuel, and that’s perfect for winter storage.

Power & Run Time
Engine
The cylinder bore is 60.0 mm (2.36 inches) and the piston stroke is 43.0 mm (1.69 inches), the compression ratio 8.5: 1. The engine produced 3.6 hp (2.7 kW) at 3,600 RPM of maximum power and 2.8 HP (2.1 kW) at 3,600 rpm continuous rated power. The maximum torque is 7.5 Nm (0.8 kg m, 5.5 ft-lb) at 2,500 RPM.
The new engine provides 2200 beginning watts & 1800 running watts of power. This can be a 200-watt increase in Contrast to EU2000i. I can say that the new updated model is a Fantastic Machine. And with Honda EU 2200i you will get more spare wattage.
Fuel Efficiency
EU2200i is equipped with a patented Eco-Throttle system. This Eco-Throttle system automatically calibrates its fuel consumption according to the current demands. Source Honda.
It also means that you can run the generator for a longer time, up to 8.1 hours with a full tank (0.95 gallons and fuel consumption around 0.12 GPH). At 25% load, this generator can easily run uninterrupted for around 8 hours. Honda EU2200i can’t run for that long if you use it to power something bigger such as an AC. On a single tank, you can run RV Air condition for 3 to 4 hours.
Need more power? you can easily connect the EU2200i Companion with a regular EU2200i for 4400 Watts of power. The EU2200i Companion will also parallel with EU2000iK1/T1 models.
The inverter generator features a simple traditional Manual Recoil. It is rated for a noise of 48 dBA (less noisy than bird calls).
The Honda EU2200i creates a clean sine wave: Thanks to less than 3% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), your delicate electronics like mobile, laptop, PC, etc can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: The DC receptacle should ONLY be used for charging 12-volt automotive type batteries.
EU2200i include the standard outlets you would expect from a 2000 watt inverter generator designed for different purposes. It comes with 120V / 125V duplex AC outlets proper for powering most of the electric appliances.
But this model did not include a dedicated outlet for RV connection but There is a Honda EU2200i Companion variation featuring a 30 Amp receptacle for RV. You just need to get a cheap adapter (like this one) to make it work with your travel trailer or RV.
Portability
The Honda EU2200i Companion can operate a wide type of appliances, making it perfect for portable use at home, camping, or on job site.
The Honda EU2200i is an inverter generator and has the following dimensions: 20 x 11.4 x 16.7 inches. Thus, it is more good looking than a conventional, open frame generator. This model has a modern design with there brand color red and black.
Labeled a lightweight and portable generator, the EU2200i weighs just 51 lbs. This generator can be moved easily by only one person and so it can be enjoyed on-the-go. The comfortable single molded plastic handle makes it even more manageable. You can pick this up with your one hand and can move it easily from your home to your car or RV very easily. Even at the campsite, you can walk with it without any hassle and sweating.
Features of Honda EU2200i with CO-MINDER
The panel includes Several light indicators that serve to show you when its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded. As for its security measures, the device features overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®), system.
Honda chose not to include a push start for this model but rather they worked on improving the manual recoil system. Starting the engine supposedly requires one or two strokes thanks to the automatic mechanical decompressor.
Control Panel
The control panel is where everything is brand new, and they finally put a weatherproof cover over. The two 120 watt outlets, but this thing is even smarter; they’ve got two little magnets in this cover so that when you fold it closed, it actually will hold itself shut.
Honda EU2200i still got an Eco throttle switch, so when you put that on, the generator will rev down to only supply the amount of power that it needs, which can save your gas and bring the noise level of the generator down.
You still got your parallel operation outlets, and you use these to connect two of these generators together so that you can double the output.
The old circuit breaker was exposed to the elements, and the good news is they finally added a weatherproof cover to that as well.
Honda My Generator app + Bluetooth® capability
Honda’s exclusive My Generator smartphone app offers remote generator operation and monitoring with impressive performance and unmatched convenience. The app includes wireless stop, operation monitoring, and service reminders, utilizing Bluetooth® connectivity.
Now for the best part, To use this Bluetooth function, go to your app store and download the Honda My Generator App ( iOS and Play Store), and once it’s installed, you’re going to select the model that you’ve got. Now, this app is pretty advanced. It actually brings up your camera, and you’re going to take a picture of the serial number on your generator, and it’ll scan the QR code, so that saves you a lot of typing, and once you put it in, it’s going to tell you exactly what to do.
Follow the instructions on the screen, and this thing literally will pair your phone with your generator. It asked me if it was a new or used generator, and the reason it’s doing that because it can also track your maintenance.
And then I went to this screen; this thing looks awesome. It looks like an automotive tack, and it was actually communicating with the generator.
With App you can check if the eco throttle is on or off, you can turn off the generator, you can see the power usage, and many more. You can not turn on the generator with the app, the model with electrical start have that option, like Honda EU7000iS.
CO-MINDER: Advanced Carbon Monoxide Detection System
The CO-MINDER system continuously measures CO levels. It will automatically shut down the generator before carbon monoxide levels near the generator reach a dangerous level.
CO-MINDER uses a very fast responding sensor to determine CO levels. Warning lights on the faceplate indicate if an instance of high CO levels shut down the generator.
Generator exhaust contains carbon monoxide which is a poison you can’t see or smell. Never use a generator inside a home or garage even if the doors and windows are open, only use it outside far away from windows doors, and vents.
As EU2200i equipped with a co minder function I put it on the test. I close my car windows and put the generator inside my car, and turn it on. Then I close all the car doors and let it run, but after less than a minute the generator shut down by itself when it detects CO in the air. It seems the technology work perfectly as that clam.
Emissions
The Honda EU2200i CO-MINDER is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California. Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

Honda EU2000i and EU2200i cost the same but you will get more power in the same-sized machine. As the new model offers 200 more watts you can go for the upgrade one. Like the old model, this new one is so quiet your neighbor gonna thank you. Also, the All-new EU2200i makes some upgrades in its electronic parts. So if you ask me about the price I will say it’s the best generator.
In comparison with other brand generators, Honda’s price is a bit high, But Honda has a high reputation for making high-quality products. So the price seems good if you go for the quality.
